The Old West Trail Country is a nostalgic journey through the heart of America’s upper Great Plains, capturing the essence of a bygone era when road trips and exploration were celebrated. The focus on the 1960s to present-day period will provide a unique perspective on the region’s history, experiences, and attractions.
The inclusion of a map from 1967 on the Maps and Promotions page is an intriguing layer to the content, offering visitors a visual guide to the locations that are featured. The use of location site numbers as keys to unlock more information about these places, people, and events enhances the interactive nature of the site, inviting readers to delve deeper into the stories behind each stop along the Old West Trail.
By showcasing both existing and historical locations, this site not only serves as a travel guide for those looking to explore the region today but also pays homage to the heritage and legacy of the past. It’s a wonderful way to preserve and share the rich history and cultural significance of Montana, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, and Wyoming, ensuring that future generations can continue to appreciate the beauty and allure of the Old West Trail.
Cultural Sensitivity
Please note that that I am sensitive to the usage of certain terms and experiences of Native American peoples and only use the terms “Indian” when it’s in the context of the Old West Trail time period and quoted directly from the guides, maps, brochures, etc of that time. I use what I consider to be much more appropriate terminology when it’s focused on current day experiences and when referencing my own interpretations of the locations, events and people.
